Painful Heels

Foot & Ankle Center of Illinois in Springfield, IL and Decatur, IL says suffering from heel pain is no minor ailment. You may think your painful heel will disappear if you give it time, and it may. However, we find that patients with painful heels had no idea there was a structural problem, a growth, a spur, or inflammation needing our attention. This pain robs you of your quality of life at work, home, and play. When your heel hurts, your whole foot and body hurts.

You have given your painful heel time to mend, but now you experience increased pain issues. When painful heels develop, please see us immediately so we can treat your condition. The causes of this pain could be any of the following.

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Haglund's Syndrome
  • Nerve injury
  • Connective tissue injury
  • Bone bruises
  • Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Stress fractures
  • Fat Pad Atrophy

You are unsure what the problem is with your heel, nor are we until we examine your foot. We may need to do an X-ray or MRI of your foot. Depending on what we discover, the problem depends on the treatment option you need, such as orthotics, rest, pain medications, immobilization, physical therapy, antibiotics, amniotic membrane injections, laser therapy, different shoes, or surgery. Problems can range from plantar fasciitis to bone spur, arthritis, and more.
