Larry Austin Jr. Selected for National 3X3 Basketball Championship

Larry Austin Jr. completes in the 3X3U National Championship in Las Vegas

After finishing a successful college basketball season at Central Michigan this past March, Larry Austin Jr. (former Springfield Lanphier High School Basketball standout) was selected along with three other players form the Mid-America Conference (MAC) to participate in second annual Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship at Mall of America last month. Larry Austin Jr. The MAC team had a 5-2 record during the three day tournament defeating teams from the Big East, Mid Atlantic Athletic Conference, Big Ten, and Sun Belt conferences. They lost to the Colonial Conference finishing third overall.

Austin’s performance was outstanding; leading his team in rebounds, assists, steals, field-goal percentage, and minutes played.

Following the tournament, the MAC team was selected to participate in the 2019 USA Basketball 3x3 National Championship that is taking place this weekend May 3-5, 2019) in Las Vegas. This event serves as a trial for the selection of the 2019 USA Basketball Men's 3x3 National Team. That will compete at the 2019 USA Men's 3x3 World Cup and 2019 USA Men's 2019 U.S. Pan American Games 3x3 Basketball Teams.


The USA Basketball 3x3 National Championship is an outdoor venue located at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center. The preliminary games begin on Friday from 3-10:30 p.m. PT and continue from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. PT on Saturday. The top four teams from each pool play on Saturday at 5:40 p.m. The championship game will be play Sunday at 10:20 a.m. and streamed live online at

 This year marks the eighth year of the USA Basketball 3x3 National Championship, and the first time the nationals are being held in Las Vegas.

Here is the pool play schedule for the MAC Team:

Game 1: Friday, 4:40 p.m. PT, vs. Ariel Slow & Steady
Game 2: Friday, 8:40 p.m. PT, vs. 3Ball California
Game 3: Saturday, 9 a.m. PT, vs. Quest
Game 4: Saturday, 11 a.m. PT, vs. NYC

Austin led in scoring at 17.5 points per game at Central Michigan University and ranked first in the Mid-American Conference in both assists (6.0 per game) and steals (2.2). He was a four-time MAC West Player of the Week and set the CMU single-season record for assists (209) and steals (78) in 2018-19. Austin was named Second Team All-MAC and NABC All-District in addition to earning a spot on the MAC All-Defensive Team.
